As the only regional non-profit health plan based in Springfield, Massachusetts, we’ve been meeting the health care needs of our members for more than 30 years.

Health New England’s high quality providers and hospitals are focused on helping you stay as healthy as possible, and coordinating excellent health care when you need it. We offer our members a variety of preventive care and wellness resources to help you maintain optimum health and well-being. We offer health plans to serve employer groups and members in the commercial, Medicaid and Medicare markets. We are proud that more individuals, families and small businesses choose us over other health plans in Western Massachusetts for their health care needs.
Our story
Health New England began as a vision – a vision to create a health plan to serve the local community. Formed by Baystate Medical Center, a group of local physicians and two other community hospitals, Health New England was incorporated as a health maintenance organization (HMO) in 1985. On January 1, 1986, Health New England began serving members, and to this day continues to be the most trusted and valued health plan in our community.
Today, as part of Baystate Health, we work hard to earn our reputation for care-excellence every day by providing outstanding service, delivering superior value and by acting as a leading corporate citizen in all our communities.
Who we serve
Health New England serves commercial members in Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire Counties in Western Massachusetts and Worcester County. We also cover the Medicaid population in and around Holyoke, Northampton, Springfield and Westfield. Health New England's Medicare Advantage coverage extends throughout Western Massachusetts. We also serve commercial members and their dependents who live in Connecticut and are employed by Massachusetts companies.
Our network
Our corner of New England is home to some of the most outstanding medical practitioners around. With a network of 23 hospitals and medical centers and nearly 11,000 providers, we make sure we give our members choice and convenience. When members need a particular type of care that requires going outside our expansive roster of medical professionals, we’ll cover that too.
For employers who choose Health New England but have employees and retirees in other regions, our health plan still covers them—they all have access to our nationwide network of high-quality providers.
We also offer worldwide emergency room coverage for all members.
