What Should Be in Your Travel Medical Kit

Most people understand how important it is to pack medical supplies on your vacation or business trip. You certainly don’t want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere without the essentials, and some items can be extremely expensive in other countries.

Below, we are going to discuss some of the best items to pack in your travel medical kit so that you are prepared for any situation. Interested in learning more? Then keep on reading.

Over-The-Counter Medications

Over-the-counter medications are one of the first things you should think about packing before you leave. If illness strikes or you’ve injured yourself, they can help pull you through so that you can finish enjoying your time away. However, you will need to make sure you are allowed to travel with them. Here are a few must-haves to keep in mind:

– Pain relief (Aspirin, paracetamol, etc.)

– Antihistamines

– Cold/flu medicine

– Motion sickness tablets

– Throat lozenges

– Diarrhoea relief tablets

Band-Aids/Bandages

You never know when you may get a cut, scratch, or blister, so having a pack of band-aids and a few bandages with you is undoubtedly a good idea. While you don’t need to go overboard and have a selection of different sizes, a few can’t hurt to bring along and won’t take up much space. It might also be wise to throw in a roll of surgical tape and gauze too.

Antiseptic Wipes

The last thing you want on your trip is for one of your minor wounds to become infected. If you don’t want to carry around a full bottle of cream, antiseptic wipes are compact and can help clean the area before you apply a bandage. They can even work well if you run out of hand sanitizer.

Insect Repellent

Insect bites can be extremely irritating and even pass on diseases, so understandably, you want to avoid them as much as possible. Repellent can help keep the bugs at bay and should be used as much as possible, especially at night. If you do happen to get bit, some string relief cream works wonders, but there are other natural solutions you can use as well.

Sunscreen

Taking care of your skin is essential, and sunscreen is one product that you should never leave home without. Alongside stopping painful sunburn, it will reduce the risk of skin cancer and keeps your skin looking young and fresh. Remember to opt for something water-resistant and reef-safe if you will be swimming or exercising. If you have sensitive skin, there are also a range of options to check out. Some are even made specifically for the face.

Prescription Medications

Finally, the last thing you must remember to pack in your travel medication kit is your own personal medications. If you will be leaving the country, it’s crucial to speak to your doctor and get a copy of your prescriptions. Some places may not allow you to bring in certain drugs, so you will need to double-check this first.
