Colour Scheme: Why It’s Important in a Medical Application

Mobile medicine is increasingly being introduced into people’s daily lives. Using various health apps helps users monitor their health and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is very important that users feel comfortable using such applications. Effective user interaction with applications and the desire to use them for a long time depend on the convenience and appearance of interfaces.

By downloading an application, the user is loyal by default: he has already completed the target action, and if he can solve his problem with the help of your service, he will use it on a regular basis. However, if at least one section of the customer’s path does not work or is inconvenient, then the person will simply delete your application. Another important point in healthcare app UI/UX design is the colour scheme. It has long been proven that colours can influence people’s emotions.

Of course, one of the most important moments in creating an application is the choice of colours. Different shades can have different effects on users’ moods, so you need to be extremely careful not to scare your audience away with the wrong colours. Today we will tell you in what colours it is best to design a medical resource so that it attracts as many potential patients as possible.

What types of shades are there?

In order to understand their varieties and, in the future, correctly combine colours, we recommend using Isaac Newton’s colour wheel.

The colours in the circle can be divided:

  • Basic: red, yellow, blue. They cannot be achieved by combining other shades.
  • Composite (secondary): orange, green and violet. These colours can be obtained by mixing two primary shades.
  • Tertiary: Colours are created by mixing one primary and one secondary shade.
  • Complementary: Colours are located opposite each other on the colour wheel and when combined create a strong contrast. Such tandems are best used if you want to highlight one of the elements of the application, for example, an announcement about a promotion.
  • Similar: shades “neighbours” on the colour wheel. Usually they look very good together and such a combination will evoke pleasant emotions among app users. Thanks to this solution, the interface as a whole looks very harmonious.

How do users perceive colours?

The choice of shades depends not only on their compatibility, but also on how you position your clinic. Think about what emotions you want to evoke in your audience.

For example, the orange colour is associated with uniqueness, friendliness and exclusivity. Therefore, if you want to emphasise the rapid development of the clinic and unique competitive advantages, then feel free to use this shade.

Green one can often be found on the websites and applications of medical institutions, and this because it is associated with stability, growth and naturalness. Darker shades create an impression of wealth. Do you want to create the image of a prosperous and reliable clinic? Use green shades in the design of your resource.

The blue colour on the site will also work to your advantage, as it evokes a feeling of safety, calm and openness. Agree, these important qualities are worth emphasising when it comes to the medical business.

The colour purple is usually associated with royalty and hints at luxury. So, this shade will be an excellent option to highlight the elite and status of your clinic.

The black colour also evokes a sense of sophistication. When paired correctly with white, this shade will reflect style and elegance. However, caution should be exercised because as a primary colour, black can evoke feelings of nervousness and be associated with negativity.

In what ways can you combine colours?

  • Select three shades located 120 degrees from each other. One of them can serve as a background, and the other two for content and navigation. This range is the most reliable, but there is no sharp contrast.
  • Use four colours: two contrasting and two complementary. Such a tandem is not easy to implement, but if you succeed, your resource will effectively attract users.
  • If you want to highlight certain qualities or enhance emotions, then a consistent system will help you. For example, to highlight a sense of stability and development, use green analogues.

Conclusion

Don’t underestimate the importance of colour in your application. The right colour scheme can create a high level of loyalty among visitors, while poorly chosen colours will scare away the entire audience. Therefore, choose colours in accordance with the image of the clinic and do not be lazy to experiment.
