5 Simple Ways for Busy College Students to Stay Healthy

From attending classes, rushing to a part-time job to study at night, the life of a college student is hectic. The busy schedule often leaves less time to partake in other fun activities. Sometimes even with proper time management, it can be challenging to stick to a healthy lifestyle. That is why we have compiled this post to give college students straightforward ways to stay healthy.

Get Enough Sleep Every Night

Pulling an all-nighter is often the first choice for a student who is studying for an upcoming exam. However, uninterrupted sleep plays a crucial role not only in your physical but also mental health. Sleep deprivation has been linked to weight gain, depression, poor productivity, and brain function. To evade these risks, a student has to get between 8-10 hours of sleep daily.

To improve your sleep patterns, avoid consuming a heavy meal before bed, have the same sleeping schedule daily, go to bed, and wake up early and engage in physical activities.

Relax

College students have to deal with a high workload, which may cause stress. In fact, for the last ten years, there has been an increase in the number of students suffering from mental health issues. The most common causes of stress for a young individual is pressure associated with college life, employment, and student debt.

To reduce the workload and get writing assistance, students from all academic levels are turning to an essay writer. While an expert can help with the workload, to beat stress, you have to try a variety of things until you find that which works for you. For instance, meditation is a popular relaxation technique, so is listening to music and adopting a positive attitude.

Remember to Stay Hydrated

Did you know that more than 50% of your body is made of water? Excessive drinking of alcohol and even soda does not count as a form of hydrating. Instead, stick to consuming clean water as it aids in maintaining body temperature, digestion, and transporting nutrients.

Besides, loss of body fluid occurs during breathing, sweating, and urinating. As a result, you must drink water to replace the lost liquid and to maintain the balance of body fluids. If you are not a fan of drinking plain water, then consume water-rich food such as watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, oranges, lettuce, cucumbers, celery, zucchini and apples.

Don’t be a Picky Eater

If you were a picky eater from a young age, chances of avoiding some foods completely while in college are high. You don’t have parents to yell at you to eat a balanced diet, so why should you? Well, a balanced meal provides numerous health benefits that keep disease at bay.

Besides, you don’t have to start with major changes. It can be a simple act like substituting sugar cravings with healthy snacks that keep your appetite in check while supplying your body with the nutrients it needs to function at optimal levels.

By making it a habit to eat a balanced diet daily, you will improve your brain function, mood, maintain a healthy weight, allow you to sleep better, and reduce the chance of getting cancer. So the next time you want to improve your memory, apart from eating a balanced diet, include foods rich in omega-three fatty acids, flavonoids, polyphenols, and vitamin D, E and C.

Make Time For Exercises

With so much to do and very little time to spare, it’s hard to include physical activity as part of your weekly habit. However, if you want to have a positive feeling and reduce the chances of getting chronic diseases, then make it a habit to stay physically active. A workout releases endorphins that trigger happy feelings. Exercise also improves alertness and reduces the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases.

Besides, you don’t need special equipment to exercise you can do join a class in the comfort of your home. You should also take advantage of recreational facilities, sports programs and fitness classes available in your college. If it’s hard to squeeze extra time to engage in a workout, then walk or take a bike to school instead of driving. Creating a workout routine will also keep you motivated and gets you in the habit of exercising regularly.

College life can be an enjoyable experience if only you make the right choices. The listed above ways of staying healthy are not hard to start. So swap the bad with the good ones take and the necessary steps to develop healthy habits, which will not only serve you well in your school life but for the rest of your life.
