4 DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

Toxins are everywhere, and many of them may be lurking underneath your kitchen sink. Things like all-purpose cleaning sprays, laundry detergents, and even air fresheners are notorious for containing toxic fragrances, and even VOC’s which stands for volatile organic compounds. According to The American Lung Association, the VOC’s released by these cleaning products have been found to cause respiratory issues, headaches, and can even cause allergic reactions. (1) It is best to completely avoid toxic cleaning products to avoid any potential reactions.

Instead of using the store-bought cleaning products, you can easily make your own with just a handful of ingredients, many of which you may already have. Not only will this be better for your overall health, but it may even save you some money!

Here are four DIY non-toxic cleaning products you can make to keep your house cleaner without the use of toxins.

4 DIY Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

#1 All-Purpose Cleaner with Vinegar & Baking Soda: All you need to make a powerful all-natural disinfectant spray is a spray bottle, water, vinegar, and baking soda. You can also add a few drops of pure-grade essential oils. Use one cup of water, one cup of white vinegar, and one tablespoon of baking soda. Use this cleaner as you would your usual all-purpose cleaning spray.

#2 Essential Oil Air Freshener Spray: Air fresheners can be full of harmful toxins and not something we want to breathe in on a daily basis. Instead of using artificial fragrance that can lead to respiratory issues, make your own air freshening room spray using pure-grade essential oils. All you need is a glass spray bottle, ten drops of your favorite essential oil, and one cup of water. You can use this to freshen up your room or when you just need an aromatherapy pick-me-up.

#3 Baking Soda Tub & Tile Scrub: Baking soda makes an excellent tub and tile cleaner as it helps to cut grime and will make your bathroom look shiny clean! All you need is two cups of baking soda and a half to one cup of water. Mix until the mixture turns into a paste. Start with half a cup of water and increase if needed. You can then use a scrubber brush or even a toothbrush to scrub the grime from your bathtubs and sinks.

#4 Tea Tree Mold Buster: Using tea tree oil to wash away mold is a great all-natural way to stay away from toxic cleaning products. You can make your own mold busting spray using one cup of water, two tablespoons of baking soda, and one half to one teaspoon of tea tree oil. Mix in a spray bottle and then use as a spray to prevent mold growth in damp places like sinks and showers. Again, you can use a toothbrush to really scrub away the mold and grime.

Reducing the number of toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis starts with looking at the cleaning products we have in our home. Removing these cleaners is one of the easiest ways to create a less toxic home environment. Try making these household cleaners. Not only are these safer alternatives, but you would be surprised at how much better they clean! Here’s to a clean and healthy home.
