Overview of Tift Regional Medical Center

Located in Tifton, Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) is a 181-bed, not-for-profit regional referral center that serves as the flagship for Tift Regional Health System. TRMC is committed to enhancing the health and wellness of patients by delivering compassionate, exceptional care with a focus on total quality. TRMC offers signature services in surgery, oncology, cardiovascular care, women’s health, neurology, medical imaging and more. TRMC has one of the most-utilized emergency centers in the region and provides a wide-range of inpatient, outpatient and observation services.

TRMC has more than 125 physicians on its medical staff representing over 30 specialties. In addition, the hospital has 75 telemedicine and 32 teleradiology providers as well over a 100 non-physician providers (including physician assistants and nurse practitioners). TRMC is Tift County’s largest employer and has a significant economic impact on the region.

The original facility, Tift General Hospital, was built in 1965 and was named after Captain H.H. Tift. In 1985, Tift General was designated as a Rural Referral Center by the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C. By the late 1990s, Tift General Hospital had undergone several expansions, renovations and additions to accommodate growing patient volume and new services. As the new millennium approached, market share in surrounding counties continued to grow, and a new name was discussed to reflect the hospital’s regional status. In 2000, the Tift County Hospital Authority approved to change the name of Tift General Hospital to Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC), to officially take effect in January 2001.
