Dr. Ray Chihara grew up in the mid-west and received his bachelor™s degree in computer science from the University of Michigan and medical degree from Indiana University. He stayed in Indiana University to complete general surgery training and earned a doctorate in Cellular and Integrative Physiology studying pig to human xenotransplantation. He then went on to train in cardiothoracic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta where he received formal training in VATS and robotic assisted thoracic surgery and completed the American Association for Thoracic Surgery Foundation Robotics Fellowship.Dr. Chihara has joined the division of Thoracic Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital out of training and his interests are minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant diseases of the thoracic cavity, which include lung, esophageal, mediastinal, diaphragm and chest wall pathologies. He is also interested in respiratory failure, lung volume reduction surgery and lung transplantation.
