Overview

In high school, Jenee Bishop loved science and enjoyed serving others. "I didn’t know what nursing was all about until I started my career," she says. "I like combining scientific knowledge with the art of nursing care to serve others and help them feel their best." But it was a month-long ministry trip to Togo Africa, working in a mission hospital with Samaritan’s Purse, that influenced her decision to go back to school for her advanced degree.

She chose to work in Trauma and Surgical Services because it allows her to make a long-term impact on an individual’s life that has been thrown into chaos by an unexpected event or crisis. "I get to help them in that moment," she explains. "But I also get to follow them throughout their stay to help them have the best possible outcome. The goal is always to help them return to their normal way of living."

Jenee has been with Beacon since August 2002, when she was in nursing school, and has continued to work here throughout her nursing career. "It just seemed natural to me to keep my loyalty here. It has been a great place to work."

Her philosophy of care is simple and powerful. "I view people as God’s creation with inherent value and worth," Jenee says. "Everyone deserves kind, compassionate and equal care from me." She wants her patients to know that she will treat them as she would want her family to be treated. "I hope my patients and families see me as a loving, caring nurse who follows through and makes time for them."

In Her Own Words

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My mom and dad. They are examples of selflessness and love. They are prayer warriors! I can count on them for anything.

What was your first job growing up? What do you remember most about it? I worked at Studebagels. I had a philosophy about the personality of each person based on their bagel order. I have seen many of my regular bagel customers as patients, visitors or family members of patients over the years.

What is your favorite food? Movie? I love salad and dark chocolate! My favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice.

What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Science and English were my best subjects. Math and history were my worst.

If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased), who would it be and why? My grandma Wynn. I just miss her. She passed away six years ago. Also, my best friend Megan. She lives out of the country, and I don’t get to see her very often.

In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? Plant-based eating, cycling, reading and studying, learning, cooking, meeting friends for coffee, volunteering at my church, medical missions, animals, nature, health and prevention.

What is something most people don’t know about you? Not much… I’m pretty transparent. Maybe that I like feeding and watching birds! I don’t have any special party tricks or unknown accomplishments.
