After becoming an EMT in 2008, Meghan Keefer loved the work so much she decided to further pursue a career in healthcare. It’s no wonder considering her mother and aunt are both nurses and her father is also an EMT. "Prior to completing my MSN and coming to Beacon, I was Trauma Coordinator at a Wisconsin trauma center," she explains. "I love the fast-paced critical thinking and implementation of action that comes with caring for trauma patients."

Meghan cares for patients from the moment they come through the ER until they are discharged from the hospital. She believes in using a multidisciplinary approach that includes both patients and their loved ones as part of the care team. "Accountability, competency and veracity are the most important qualities one can maintain in healthcare," she goes on to say. "They ensure positive outcomes and earn the trust of patients and their family members."

She brings humility and compassion to her practice and considers it critical to decision making and the general well-being of those in her care. "We are here during a patient’s most vulnerable moments. It’s important to advocate for their needs and quality of life, while treating patients and their loved ones holistically, equally and respectfully."

In her own words…

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My parents. They are genuine, hardworking people and the best supporters I could ever ask for.

What was your first job growing up? What do you remember most about it? I worked at an ice-skating rink. I learned to sharpen a mean skate and play hockey.

What is your favorite movie? Anything from Monty Python.

What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Science and math were my best subjects. Art was my worst.

If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased), who would it be and why? It’s a difficult choice between Winston Churchill, Sir Isaac Newton and Mother Teresa. Choosing only one, I would select Winston Churchill as he was one of the biggest inspirations in modern history. He motivated the British nation and allied forces during a time of world devastation and perpetual danger, bringing nations together to fight for the injustices brought upon millions of people. He is credited for halting the spread of fascism and protecting the idea of democracy during the Second World War.

In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? My community and preserving the environment.

What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy golf, travelling and anything water related (boating, skiing, etc.).

What is something most people don’t know about you? I was a firefighter/paramedic in Wisconsin from 2008 until I moved to Indiana in the fall of 2020.
