I wanted to leave a review about my experience with Dr. Rasheed so others may consider it before committing to a psychiatrist. I first met Dr. Rasheed right out of undergrad when I had been struggling with PTSD for about 2-3 years. I was working with a therapist and my family practitioner for medication management, but it was recommended that I seek further support from a specialist.

Unfortunately, I felt that I could place immediate trust in her knowledge and expertise as a physician. On our initial call when she spoke of being able to “live my best life” with her assistance, it brought me hope, finally being able to have relief and increased functionality in my life. I felt that I was given a cookie cutter plan and was not truly listened to with my concerns. My therapist actually wrote a letter to her before my first appointment to tell her more about my background, chief complaints, and her observations during sessions to be sure she had ample information.

    Medical Treatment:
One of my complaints were constant nightmares (mostly trauma based), I was prescribed some medication that was supposed to help with my nightmares and quality of sleep. My nightmares ended up getting worse. When I brought it up to Dr. Rasheed, I was informed that a side effect of the medication was that it could make your nightmares worsen and even become more vivid – I was not told of this ahead of time and it came across to me as imprudent and reckless.

When I first entered her care, I informed Dr. Rasheed of my previous medications and the ones I was still actively taking. She informed me that she wanted to taper me off one of them, without ever creating an action plan to do so. I ended up running out of that medication and going through withdrawals from not doing a gradual decrease of dosage; withdrawals for me included brain zaps.

I feel like those who are at a point to seek out support from a psychiatrist are an especially vulnerable yet trusting population; it’s a shame that there are physicians who take advantage of that or are careless with their treatment. I wish I had more confidence to have advocated for myself and questioned her with more skepticism.

    Billing:
Regarding billing, I never had to pay anything for my appointments even though I would always ask; I felt like it was odd, but I was constantly told “we’re in contact with your insurance” over and over again to ensure these treatments were covered. This was not the case. Once I finally decided to leave the care of Dr. Rasheed, I had found over $15,000 worth of claims to my medical insurance portal online.

In addition to that, when I requested my medical charts so I could bring it to a new physician, I found there were parts of information documented incorrectly, including parts of patient history, and identifying information.

This is not an exhaustive recounting of all the experiences from my time there, but I felt compelled to share some of my story as someone who wants others to have an opportunity to consider this and weigh it when selecting a physician to manage your care. Overall, she may work well with other people; I am not sure and cannot speak to that. Again, I wanted to share my personal experience from my perspective as a patient under Dr. Rasheed’s care.
