I came to Dr. Jeremy Whitney with an eye issue and was told he was a specialist in his clinic. I was hoping for some insight and real help into problems which my other prior eye docs haven't offered much besides the bare minimum and a shrug. With courage I scheduled with him.
His exams weren't rushed and seemed attentive comparatively and I was very pleased for the most part and eye felt better at first. But it felt like he didn't really grasp my history. I wasn't given explicit instructions (and nothing ever in writing for reinforcement, only verbal communication) or an easy way to contact him directly, and I was blamed harshly for not understanding or knowing what to do, which on limited budget could help guide. Clear protocols would have been useful. Anyway, to me I fear Dr. Whitney jumped to conclusions without further clarification which caused him to abruptly change direction on my situation which only made things worse for me, which not like he could know since I discontinued seeing him. The impact of his commentary on me that I perceive negative and uncaring and judgemental haunts me.
I observed his warm interactions with other patients, so what I did experience is not what most will or have, most likely. Maybe things have changed since the time I was there or somehow i totally misunderstood him, but the result still weights on me with great anguish since my problems not really solved still.

Communication definitely could have been better to ensure a happy outcome. My condition wasn't explained. I would've been lost without having read up on the Internet. Most everything I learned came from the Internet, where I probably picked up misinformation too...
Dr. Whitney was good about making sure I had enough medication, but never offered the best way to contact him, and the phone at his clinic was busy most of the time and went to voicemail. i was "on my own" because of this.
Then I was confused when the treatment plan changed unexpectedly, even contradicting his earlier statements, without taking the time to explain the change and making sure I was okay with it.
Most startling, it seemed as though Dr. Whitney didn't consider my feelings while greatly overstating his own. At times, I felt misunderstood. I don't know if he realizes how callous he can present himself, in stark contrast to his otherwise professional demeanor.
It just felt like I was a bother at this clinic. Since I felt I wasn't getting the encouragement or guidance I desired, I ended up going to a different eye clinic in Thurston.
