Do not go to this incompetent ophthalmologist ! His negligence caused me total blindness in my eye ! On 12-2-20 my eye was losing vision, hurting, and tearing. On 12-4-20 I tried calling Dr. Sibia's office and as usual his incompetent staff was not answering the phone for over an hour. So I went to another ophthalmologist office on 12-4-20, and that doctor never checked my retina, misdiagnosed me with dry eye and sent me home with nothing but eye drops. On 12-7 and 12-8-20 I went back there and another incompetent doctor misdiagnosed me with a cornea irritation, installed a stem cell patch, and again sent me home with nothing but eye drops. My vision was declining every day. On 12-9-20, I went to Dr. Sibia, who's office staff finally decided to answer the phone. I had gone to him for the past 9 years, and he took a cataract out of that eye in 2012. I always thought he was a good doctor, up to that week. When I told him what the other 2 doctors did, he acted like they didn't know what they were doing and told me I had allergic conjunctivitis, and gave me a prescription for eye drops, as well as over the counter ones. He never checked my retina on that special machine. I didn't know anything about the retina and didn't ask about it. By that day I had nothing but tunnel vision in that eye, and told him that. He kept insisting that it was the A.C. that was causing the vision loss. He told me to come back in two weeks. By 12-16-20, I was totally blind in that eye. I went back to his office, he was not there, and was given to a younger associate Dr. Ireland. She had her medical assistant take a retina exam on this machine. She came into the office looking so embarrassed. She said " I don't know how to tell you this, but you have a fully detached retina. That's why you cannot see in that eye. I don't know how all of these doctors missed this. I have to get you to a retina doctor today. You need emergency surgery." I went to a retina doctor who got all the records from Dr. Sibia's office. He was shocked on how all 3 doctors, especially Dr. Sibia missed this. I had surgery the next day. I had months of hell from it. I was out of work for 10 days with my head down. Totally blind in that eye for a month. Then after 2 months a mere 20-60 vision with distortions. I had 20-30 vision with no problems before this. After 3 months, no better. On 12-19-21 I went to regular ophthalmologist who could only correct me to 20-50 with glasses. with lifetime multiple distortions, such as Macropisia ( seeing things much smaller than normal, a permanent dilated pupil, light sensitivity, halos and starbursts at night. Because of this place, I am living on one eye for the rest of my life.
It's an unsolved mystery to me how this office is so busy, with this incompetent doctor. He let my eye go blind, thinking it was something minor, when it was the worst thing that can happen to your eye. The prime age for a retina detachment is 50 - 70 years old, and I was 61. All he had to do is ask one of their assistants to check my retina on the machine that all ophthalmologists have. It's a 5 minute test that costs them nothing. It's like an MRI for the back of the eye. Instead of finding this major problem and getting me to a retina surgeon for emergency surgery, he sent me out with a prescription eyedrops and told me to come back in two weeks. If he took the time to check my retina, this could have been fixed with a simple laser procedure in a retina doctor's office. Because of this incompetent doctor I needed a 2 hour operation and was totally blind for a month, and now a lifetime of functioning on one eye. I cannot drive using this eye, thanks to Dr. Sibia.
