She attended Oklahoma Baptist University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and met her husband. She practiced as a Registered Nurse at Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City for three years on an intermediate care unit. A trip with her church and husband to Swaziland in Africa led her to continue her education at Midwestern State University and become a Family Nurse Practitioner. She practiced as a nurse practitioner in Oklahoma City for about four years until her husband was finished with residency and they moved to Southeast Oklahoma.
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has gone through additional training to provide more advanced medical and diagnostic care to patients with all different kinds of illnesses. These medical professionals generally hold at least a master’s degree, so they have a comprehensive basis of medical knowledge to help patients suffering from chronic and acute conditions. They may work in hospitals, intensive care units, hospice centers, and even doctor’s offices, depending on their specialty.
