Laura L. DeMaria, RN, MSN, CPNP, specializes in pediatric nursing, including comprehensive and acute care for infants, children, and adolescents with and without chronic illness. She is a clinical professor and preceptor for graduate nurse practitioner students at Seton Hall University, Rutgers University, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

">"I wanted to be a nurse and take care of people, especially children, since I was 4 years old." says Laura. "It's important to me to ensure that each of my pediatric patients receives the best care possible," she adds. "For this reason, I believe in a comprehensive approach to health and wellness that includes considerations for each patient's developmental stage, physical health, psychological / emotional health, behavioral health, and cognitive health from birth to young adulthood."
To her credit, Ms. DeMaria earned the Wagner College Excellence in Community Nursing Award and Overlook Medical Center Honorarium for fostering excellent pediatric care. "I have enjoyed being a preceptor for graduate pediatric nurse practitioner students for more than 15 years. It's gratifying to inspire my students to make thorough, thoughtful clinical assessments and teach them the importance of being respectful to and caring of each patient and family," she says.
Ms. DeMaria is a lifetime member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. She has been featured in the New Jersey Family "New Jersey's Favorite Kids' Docs" listings.
When she is not working with her patients, Ms. DeMaria enjoys spending time with her family, as well as, bicycling, dancing, playing tennis and volunteering.
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has gone through additional training to provide more advanced medical and diagnostic care to patients with all different kinds of illnesses. These medical professionals generally hold at least a master’s degree, so they have a comprehensive basis of medical knowledge to help patients suffering from chronic and acute conditions. They may work in hospitals, intensive care units, hospice centers, and even doctor’s offices, depending on their specialty.
