Nurse Practitioner
Nadia Jamil, APN is a member of Summit Health's Primary Care at Home team. With a master’s degree in Family Practice, Ms. Jamil is trained to provide care across the lifespan but has special focus in geriatric medicine. She graduated from Rutgers University with a doctorate in Clinical Practice to better care for her patients using up-to-date evidence-based research.
Ms. Jamil previously worked as an emergency room nurse in a level two hospital in New York for 9 years, where she treated many respiratory, stroke and cardiac patients emergently. She has certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS).
“I believe in patient-centered care that focuses on primary prevention and education,” says Ms. Jamil. “I believe the key to good health is using advancements in technology, evidence-based practices, and incorporating a mind/body philosophy to collectively accomplish patient goals.”
Ms. Jamil holds a bachelor’s degree in Art and worked as a graphic designer for close to three years before deciding to make the move to health care. “Higher education was very important to my dad, and he was the one who encouraged me to continue my education. At the same time, my mom was caring for my grandmother who was on Hospice which further inspired me to enter the field of medicine – a path that has been extremely rewarding personally and professionally.”
Ms. Jamil loves meeting new people, helping those in need, and facing new challenges every day. When not caring for patients, she enjoys hiking, painting, visiting museums, traveling, spending time with family, friends and her animals, and volunteering.
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has gone through additional training to provide more advanced medical and diagnostic care to patients with all different kinds of illnesses. These medical professionals generally hold at least a master’s degree, so they have a comprehensive basis of medical knowledge to help patients suffering from chronic and acute conditions. They may work in hospitals, intensive care units, hospice centers, and even doctor’s offices, depending on their specialty.
