Dr. Erin Sparks administered care to my wife during her hospital stay at Roper St. Francis Bon Secours Hospital and was the only Doctor to provide an accurate diagnosis for her progressive cognitive impairment/functional decline condition. After extensive testing, analysis and consultation with her peers she arrived at the conclusion that my wife was suffering from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) which is the most common human form of a group of rare, fatal brain disorders known as prion diseases. An autopsy confirmed her diagnosis as sporadic CJD and regretfully my wife passed away in late February, 2021. During her stay in the hospital Dr. Sparks displayed the highest level of professionalism and determination in pursuit of an extremely difficult diagnosis. She also provided uncommon compassion and outstanding communications with my family often speaking with us through conference calls during her personal time away from work. My wife looked forward to her visits and the friendly conversation about family affairs and other personal life events. Dr. Sparks is truly an outstanding physician and will always remain fondly in our hearts for her service excellence above and beyond our expectations. Roper St. Francis Bon Secours Hospital is very fortunate to have her as an exceptional member of their staff and we sincerely appreciate the outstanding service she provided to my wife and our family during these difficult times. We can never repay her kindness and compassion but would recommend her highly as a skilled and dedicated neurological specialist of the highest caliber.
