About Dr. Kulyk

Dr. Iryna Kulyk has always been fascinated with medicine. She was working toward an undergraduate degree in Human Biology and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto, when she decided to pursue a career in medicine. “I liked the subject matter. I liked that as a doctor you have a unique opportunity to improve and save people’s lives,” she said.

As a hospitalist, Dr. Kulyk is trained in Internal Medicine and takes care of patients admitted to the hospital. Her tasks include collecting patient history, performing the physical exam, and looking at the labs and other findings. She then establishes the diagnosis and treatment plan and collaborates with specialists and house staff to make sure patients receive the best treatment available.

Dr. Kulyk has learned patience from the individuals she treats. “I learn a lot from patients, from how unexpectedly common diseases can present sometimes to identifying a common presentation of an extremely rare disease,” she said. While her approach is always to be direct and honest, she encourages patients to ask questions and wants them to understand their own health. “I tend to be direct and honest about diagnosis and treatment,” she said.

Beacon Health System has a great and reputable hospitalist group that Dr. Kulyk is proud to join. “It has a great reputation. It offers a great number of specialist and subspecialist coverage that other hospitals do not,” she said.
