Scott H. Hanan, MD, specializes in surgery for soft-tissue tumors, diseases of the intestinal tract, and hernias. In addition, Dr. Hanan has expertise in anterior approaches to the spine for degenerative disc disease, deformities, malignancies, and infections.



Before joining Summit Health, Dr. Hanan practiced privately in New York City. He was an attending surgeon at Beth Israel Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital, where he treated surgery patients and those with chronic wounds. Recognized as a leader in anterior approaches to the spine, Dr. Hanan has trained surgeons in techniques for lumbar disc replacement.

Dr. Hanan's research interests include operative and reoperative strategies and anterior spinal surgery. He is the coauthor of articles and abstracts on these and related topics, which are published in Journal of Surgical Oncology, Journal of Immunotherapy, and American Journal of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American College of Physician Executives.



When he is not working with his patients, Dr. Hanan enjoys spending time with his family as well as playing and coaching youth hockey, fishing, and being outdoors.
