Nicole Shen, MD, is board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology. She is board-certified in transplant hepatology. Dr. Shen earned her medical degree from University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in Columbia, Missouri. She completed her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Shen also completed a sub-specialty fellowship in transplant hepatology at New York-Presbyterian / Columbia University Medical Center.

Dr. Shen has a special interest in caring for patients with liver disease, in particular those with alcohol-associated liver disease, non-alcohol-associated fatty liver (NAFLD/NASH), autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis, and liver lesions. She also has an interest in the gut microbiome and nutrition, as well as providing preventative care (colon cancer screening) and caring for those suffering from heartburn, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastrointestinal bleeding.

She specializes in screening procedures including upper endoscopy procedures with intervention, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy placement and can perform FibroScans and liver biopsies when necessary.

Dr. Shen also has several publications on the use of probiotics in gastrointestinal disease and patient-centered care for patients with liver disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
