Brittany Sims, FNP-C, received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, and her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the national honor society of nursing. Sims has completed a scholarly project on the social determinants of health in order to provide references for patients with social needs in the community.
She enjoys spending time with her family and lives on a ranch raising Hereford cattle.
“The Lord called me to health care at a young age when my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Sims says. “The nurses who provided exceptional care to her during her time of need made my family feel special and cared for. This experience opened my eyes to the importance of individualized health care, and I immediately knew my calling was to serve in the health care field.”
She says she chose Iuka Medical Clinic because she is passionate about helping others in her community by improving access to exceptional health care. “Iuka Medical Clinic provides outstanding and individualized care to patients of all ages and walks of life,” she says.

Family medicine doctor or Internist is someone who specializes in diagnosing and treating illnesses, diseases, and health problems. Most internists are also primary care doctors and treat patients on a regular basis. They can diagnose and treat common illnesses or more serious problems. Most people see an internist regularly. Those with chronic illnesses may do so on a monthly or even weekly basis. Internists are the most common types of doctors.
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has gone through additional training to provide more advanced medical and diagnostic care to patients with all different kinds of illnesses. These medical professionals generally hold at least a master’s degree, so they have a comprehensive basis of medical knowledge to help patients suffering from chronic and acute conditions. They may work in hospitals, intensive care units, hospice centers, and even doctor’s offices, depending on their specialty.
