Endodontics is the subspecialty of dentistry that focuses on issues related to and the health of the dental pulp. They differ from dentists in the fact that they only focus on the dental pulp, or the center of the tooth that is comprised of living tissue, instead of oral health as a whole. This field has grown considerably over the last decade, which has also advanced the field of dentistry. Endodontists treat many different illnesses and disorders related to the dental pulp.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a medical subspecialty that can help treat diseases and disorders of the face, head, neck, and soft tissues of the jaw. It can include surgical and non-surgical interventions for issues of this sort. While it is generally considered a subspecialty of medicine, it is also closely related to dentistry. In fact, some oral and maxillofacial surgeons may even work with dental problems or in conjunction with dentists to solve oral and dental complications.
Periodontics is subspecialty of dentistry that works with the structures that surround and that support the teeth. Therefore, dentists who specialize in this area may treat teeth and gum diseases. Since films of plaque build and grow on teeth over time, the teeth’s support system can suffer. One of the most common conditions this type of medicine handles is gingivitis. This common dental problem can lead to receding gums and other problems with the teeth over time.
Prosthodontics is a subspecialty of dentistry that works with dental prosthetics. The most commonly recognized dental prosthetic is a denture, but there are many other solutions to tooth loss that these dentists offer, such as bridges and crowns. Not only do these doctors diagnose tooth problems and help find treatment solutions that work for their patients, but they can also bring people a better quality of life through largely cosmetic means. They help people by providing them with functional and attractive prosthetic teeth.
