Michael Cavazos, MD, FACC is Board Certified in Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He practices with South Texas Cardiology Specialists.
Dr. Cavazos knew he wanted to be a doctor—a “heart doctor”—since childhood. As a young boy, he would even dress up as one for Halloween, with gloves and little hats his mom, a nurse, would bring home from the hospital, and fake blood! This small-town boy from Laredo got a lot more from his mom than just part of his doctor costume, however. He learned the value of hard work, perseverance and mastery which inspires him to this day.
After completing Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and clinical laboratory science, Dr. Cavazos attended Ross University School of Medicine in the West Indies where he completed his medical degree and ultimately continued with his goals. During his clinical rotations in New York City, Dr. Cavazos learned about caring for patients from various ethnic backgrounds and with different religious and medical beliefs. This experience of a small-town boy moving to the big city heightened his level of confidence to one day return to South Texas and share his expertise with the community that raised him.
Dr. Cavazos then pursued a research fellowship at the San Antonio Endovascular and Heart Institute in San Antonio where he sharpened his research skills and developed a passion for cardiovascular innovations. He was accepted into the inaugural residency class at the University of Texas Health Science Center – Northeast in Tyler, Texas and continued Cardiology research as well as quality improvement strategies within the cardiovascular department. Dr. Cavazos was accepted to the cardiology fellowship program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Cavazos sees patients at the Heart Plaza One office and in Seguin, as well as at both Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan and Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan.
