Overview

Dr. Bryan relocated to the Tampa Bay area from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is based in our St. Petersburg Adult location. Dr. Bryan is a Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon, highly specialized in the area of heart, chest, lung, and carotid artery surgery. He has extensive experience and interest in complex valvular operations and high-risk coronary artery bypass operations, utilizing the latest surgical techniques and technology, including minimally invasive procedures that shorten recovery time and significantly improve outcomes for our patients.
Dr. Bryan was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1984 he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. From there he headed back to Atlanta, Georgia to attend medical school. He completed his Doctor of Medicine Cum Laude at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Bryan completed residencies in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals, serving as the administrative Chief Resident in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He also completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Carlyle-Fraser Heart Center of Emory University.
Prior to relocating to the area, Dr. Bryan was an Attending Surgeon with Coastal Cardiovascular Surgery and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where the heart surgery group earned the 2009 and 2010 Healthgrades #1 ranking for cardiac surgical programs in South Carolina and the top 5% in the nation. Dr. Bryan served in various capacities at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center including Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Additionally, he is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, and serves on regional professional society committees.
When he is not attending to the care and concerns of his patients, Dr. Bryan enjoys running, biking and swimming. As a matter of fact, he competed in and completed the 2008 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. He spends his leisure time with his wife of 22 years, Lynda, and their 2 sons, Trey age 19 and Matthew age 16.
