Monica Lo was my husband’s doctor in 2017 when he was severely injured during a TEE probe insertion. He suffered from pain and dysphagia for 2 days before being transferred to another institution, where he underwent emergency surgery to remove his esophagus. The surgeon said he had never seen an esophageal injury like that — a 21cm esophageal hematoma. Esophageal tissue was becoming ischemic and necrotic. Monica Lo has consistently denied any role in/knowledge of a difficult TEE probe insertion, including throughout our 2-day inpatient stay with her. “If I had known there was a problem, I would have done the insertion myself or used a smaller size probe,” she said, falsely, throughout our stay. The medical record and sworn testimony of 3 witnesses disagree with her version of events. They say Monica Lo assisted with/DID the probe insertion. I cannot recommend a practitioner who outright lies to a patient when a medical error occurs.
